Rafael Leonidas Trujillo’s Dictatorship Timeline:
1891: Rafael Leonidas Trujillo was born.
1929: A rebellion against Horacio Vázquez erupted, and Trujillo presented himself as a candidate in 1930 elections.
1930: Trujillo won the elections and he governed for 30 years.
1950’s: Trujillo exploited Dominican Republic’s resources, but the benefits from the profits failed to reach the general population. Also underground movements against Trujillo´s dictatorship started to proliferate.
1960: A plot was devised to blow up Trujillo at a fair, but one day before the SIM started to roundup the opposition. The Catholic Church and the Organization of the American States condemned and denounced the actions of Trujillo.
1961: Trujillo was assassinated by military leaders.
